Social Media Brain Experiment : lj 6

  1. respond to your readings of the past weekI want you to do this in 2 parts.
  2. Part 1: Social Media Laws and Ethics
  1. what did you think of this material?

I believe the reading material focused on social media companies that use the news consumption technique, which has evolved substantially in recent years with an ever-increasing percentage of news ingested online. When comparing digital and traditional media, the majority of individuals prefer online digital channels as their primary news source. Users find news using search engines and social media sites when consuming it online.

  1. somethings you might want to address: how does knowing this affect your personel use of social media and/or the internet, how might knowing this affect your use of social media in a professional capacity, do you have ideas about the ethics of this, and/or other things i haven't listed.

My biggest concern is that the information we studied in class has had a significant impact                     on my personal usage of social media, particularly in terms of restricting my postings and                          avoiding offensive materials. A massive social media corporation should not use                                       programmatically built settings in which computers automatically select personalized content                   depending on my news choices. My customization options may be explicit or implicit, based             on data gathered from my online activities. Since I initially started browsing the internet, I'm                 sure the tailored news distribution algorithm has been growing. It's not the consequence of a                 professional director's decision, but a computer, which is why I keep my online negative                         movie fixation to social media so no one thinks I'm a horrible person.

  1. Discuss Social Media Lies and Propaganda.
  2. What do you think about this?

Given the regularity of these data, there is reason to be optimistic about Social Media Lies and Propaganda since even little adjustments in the underlying algorithms may have an influence on the results. Furthermore, although experimental evidence for search engines and social media websites is equivalent, evidence for social networking sites is still concerning. Furthermore, every study including only capture a reasonable amount of time and is vulnerable to fluctuations in the material being evaluated. As a result, it appears that the social platforms under scrutiny must be more upfront about modifications within their methods that alter the content choices that users are supplied regularly. This is especially problematic in context of web media and the significance of content diversification.

  1. Has learning this information changed how you use social media or how you decide what is real or lies?

Learning this knowledge altered how I use social media and how I determine what is true             and what is false, since we cannot be happy with simply controlling Facebook's position          in the public sphere of new digital news information material. For example, BRUSSELS          (AP) — Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen warned Tuesday that the “metaverse,”        the all-encompassing virtual reality world at the heart of the social media giant’s growth        strategy, will be addictive and rob people of yet more personal information while giving the embattled company another monopoly online. Casert, R. (2021, November 9). The AP interview: Facebook whistleblower fears the metaverse. Instead, we must consider what it is about the public realm of digital news and information material, as well as our personal lives, that has allowed Facebook to play such a major role. “According to research conducted by the Boston Consulting Group, privacy of personal data is a top issue for 76 percent of global consumers and 83 percent of U.S. consumers.” Six-in-ten Americans (61%) have said they would like to do more to protect their privacy. (Casert, 2021) I don't believe Facebook should be used as an experiment to fill a hole in our public and personal life. There are privacy and security options for a reason: Learn about and utilize social media privacy and security settings. They are there to assist you in controlling who sees what you publish and managing your online experience in a good manner. (2021)      Then repairing or even renaming Facebook is like to dealing with a burning structure packed with jet fuel.
